The story behind the hotel
In 2025, we will reopen the doors to Årøsund Badehotel after more than 2 years of downtime. We believe it’s time for the cultural and historical gem in Southern Jutland to once again be ready to pamper local guests and tourists in the area with fantastic gastronomic experiences – and an exclusive stay right by the water’s edge in the Little Belt.
The stately main building – with its recognizable yellow color – has been a cultural and historical focal point in the local area since 1903, and we want to preserve and build on this unique history.

The new leaseholder
After a few years without a leaseholder, Ivan Gotfredsen has stepped in today, and it is his distinguished task to get the seaside hotel, restaurant and function rooms up and running again.
Ivan has solid experience in the restaurant and hospitality industry, and for the past 16 years he has run the hotel and restaurant “Domaine du Châtelard” in the south of France. Prior to this, Ivan worked at several Michelin-starred restaurants, including Restaurant “Le Pont de Brent” in Switzerland.
Ivan has set a clear direction for the future of Årøsund Badehotel: There will be a strong focus on the unique story of the local area, the beautiful surrounding nature and a sustainable approach to hotel and restaurant operations.
The host couple
Helping Ivan with this are the married couple Henrik and Margaret Pontoppidan. They are our public face and therefore the ones you meet when you visit us.
Henrik and Margaret have spent 16 years together running Restaurant Galionen in Vejle, so they bring a wealth of experience as managers and hosts at our beach hotel.
Our concept
Årøsund Badehotel is run according to a concept that stands on 4 legs:
Authenticity
At our seaside hotel you will meet the authentic Årøsund. This means an encounter with genuine hospitality, local culture and ingredients from skilled producers nearby. The whole place should tell a story – from the interior to the food on the menu.
Nature
Årøsund Badehotel is located in the most stunning surroundings. Nature therefore plays a central role in our interior design, activities for guests and menu composition in the restaurant.
Traditions
We are proud of the history we are part of at the beach hotel. That’s why we place great importance on preserving and communicating this history. We invite all our guests to explore the past of the place – both by exploring the hotel, the surrounding nature and our menu, which should also tell a story about the place.
Sustainability
We are committed to running the hotel in a green and responsible way. That’s why we use organic ingredients as much as possible – and as much as 80% of our ingredients are delivered within a radius of 80 km. This supports both local producers and our climate.
We also have an important long-term goal to meet the EU Ecolabel for tourist accommodation within the next few years.
During the renovation of the beach hotel, we have made a point of recycling materials – out of respect for the site and the environment.
